The Scout Movement started almost spontaneously in 1907 following the publication of “Boy Patrols” in cheap weekly parts of “Scouting for Boys” about Baden-Powell’s experimental Brownsea Island camp.

Please note – we now can only hire the building out to organised youth groups, education or religious groups.

The Scout Hut was built in the 1960’s to replace the former Scout Hut in Chaplin Street (now Roselands Gardens). The buildings and land are owned partially by us and partly leased from the Uplands Estate Householders Association. We are responsible for keeping the HQ in good condition and also the fences and trees in the copse. We hold a Spring Cleaning Day and a Grounds Maintenance Day from time to time.
